Gizmo + Grand Central + Gizmo Project = Free Phone

First, sign up for the Gizmo Project at www.gizmoproject.com, which is free. That gives you a SIP account, which is the protocol VOIP phones use. Basically, it allows you to chat with other online instant messengers, but it also has SIP capabilities.

Then, configure your gizmo with the Gizmo Project servers since the gizmo uses the SIP protocol to communicate.

Then, configure Grand Central to forward all your calls to your Gizmo Project account.
blog.grandcentral.com/?p=72

Then, configure your Sunrocket account to forward all calls to your Grand Central number.

Now, when people call either your old Sunrocket number or your new Grand Central number, it goes to your gizmo, which rings your normal home phone. All incoming calls are free.

If you want to make an outgoing call, you can either pay $0.019 per minute, or you can do it for free (only during Grand Central's beta period) by going to your Grand Central account and adding someone to your address book and clicking the "call" button. This makes Grand Central call the person and calls your phone to connect the two, so it counts as an incoming call. So, you can make all outgoing calls for free.

I signed up with viatalk but after 3 days they didn't even process the order to the 2nd step, so I cancelled and switched to Teleblend (aka Sunrocket with a fresh coat of paint). I then spoke with a Teleblend rep and discovered that they don't knwo when international calls will be possible. I found a workaround: I signed up for http://www.yak4ever.com/ and even if the quality is quite bad, at least I can make int'l call for free.

http://www.callcentric.com is highly customizable and offers some unique features. I was able to set it up as 2nd line for my gizmo in 2 minutes.

Thanks. Works great here after the sunrocket explosion.
I had trouble using it with my gizmo # straight but I forwarded my sunrocket number to my gizmo call in number which I got for $12 for three months and that works perfect. I wonder how long the sunrocket # will continue to be forwarded?
I tried the more exact settings found here http://sunrocketrecovery.blogspot.com/ so. rather than the generic ones at the gizmo site.
Thanks for your work.

How can you get a Grand Central "Invitation"?
Thanks so much for this helpful information.
It looks very workable, that is if you can get on Grand Central ;<)

Sign up here. Search grandcentral with no space. Wait. Enjoy.

Well, I hope that Google moves Click to Call out of Beta as fast as it has moved Google Mail (gmail) out of Beta. ( BTW it still is in Beta 3+ Years later. :)

Wow Grand Central ( even though I signed up months ago it has been a Pure and True White Knight on the Horizon of the setting sun of Sunrocket. This cloud had a silver lining for sure.

Good article! One comment. How do you make your regular phone ring?

"Now, when people call either your old Sunrocket number or your new Grand Central number, it goes to your gizmo, which rings your normal home phone."

I have entered the SIP from gizmoproject into my grandcentral settings, but if someone calls my grandcentral number it will only ring my gizmo and not my regular phone. How do you do the latter?

Dont you think that it will be only good until you dont have access to sunrocket account info anymore ? .. I dont know if we would be able to take advantage of this for a long time ..

Thanks I was successfully configured.

I have the same problem as Dennis. I call my grandcentral number (from my cell), but it only rings the gizmo project interface on the computer- not my home phones. Can someone point to what I'm missing?
Thanks!

@ Dennis and Erik, I have set mine up successfully only on the AC-211, I am going to play around with the Innomedia, Next, I think the Issue is that a work around has to be figured out for the The Stun Servers.

So let me know if you have an unlocked AC-211 I can get you up and going, ( including how to make the Touch tones i.e. DTMF O) Work with Grand Central.

Also make sure that your cell isn't listed as a forwarding number in GC.

Thanks Oregonseer. I am using an InnoMedia gizmo. I only have my GizmoProject SIP number and my old SunRocket number listed in GrandCentral.
FWIW, I am able to dial out from the home lines.

OregonSeer, I have overlooked a major ingredient! I have a Grandstream 386 TA that I need to set up for my Call-In gizmo project phone number. Once I put a few alligators to sleep, I'll see if that makes a difference.

Oh, by the way, I have the Linksys TA that I got from Sunrocket. It's working although Voicemail is not and I'm now with teleblend. By the way, their support is out to lunch!

Don't know if it matters, but I'm currently set up: cable modem --> gizmo --> Linksys WRT54GS.

Hey Dennis- someone said here that the phones will ring if you exit the GP program. Worked for me. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r18701659-Innomedia-Gizmo-Grand-Central-Gizmo-Project-Free-Phone~start=20

Dennis & Eric I still have'nt played with the Innomedia, ( Yet) I have read successful reports. over at DSLR.

Good New Grandcentral + Ac-211 = Cheetah Blood! That is the on-going inside Joke that about Faxing over VOIP and what you need to get it to work. Never had a problem faxing with SR but I did with Vonage ( Go figure)

Well, I faxed today with Grand Central, I bought $10 worth of Call credits as well for the GP.

(To make the wife happy till we get situated and trained on the Click2Call.

I only fax occasionally, but it is great to have when you need it.

Dennis, I have only used the Grand Central and the GP 747 number

Well... From last week I decided I will go for this but was delaying as Sunrocket was working...

July 29th there was heavy rain... my phone stopped working thru sunrocket... dialtone back but cannot receive or make calls...

All it does is says in my phone "Line in use"....

when I try to dial after pressing talk it goes back to dialtone....

when I try to dial first then press talk it says "busy"...

Today I sat down to configure it for gizmo and grancentral....

I got the dial tone by following the steps...

No incoming...

the above dialing problem still exists...

Please advise..... help me here....

Thank you...

Is there a time limit on the Gizmo softphone? I can intiate a call from Grancentral, but the gizmo cuts me off in a minute?

OregonSeer,

Could you send me instructions on how to setup AC 211 gizmo.

email: imperience.sk@gmail.com

thanks

Sorry to jump into your thread, but I'm trying to figure out how to set up my AC 211 with Callcentric. Their tech support has been responsive, but apparently don't know the answer--they recently replied that my device isn't sending a registration request (despite the fact that box is checked) and I could send screenshots. Upon sending them screenshots, they responded that they are working with their own AC 211 and trying to determine how to set it up. Can you give me any tips? (I have already unlocked it, I just can't get Callcentric to recognize it.)

Thanks a ton! You can email me at lobigizmo.z.ogre-at-neverbox.com.
